Turn-based or real-time: which combat suits a phone?
Phones are a weird place for combat. Your inputs are limited, the screen is small, and you're often playing somewhere distracting. That changes which combat styles actually feel good.
Turn-based systems, like the one in Emberfall Saga, shine here. You can pause, think, and nobody punishes you for looking up from your phone for a second. It's forgiving of interruptions.
Real-time can absolutely work too, but it needs clean, forgiving controls. Neon Drift Rush gets away with it because the inputs are simple and the stakes of a mistake are low.
Our rule of thumb: the more precise the real-time inputs need to be, the more frustrating it gets on a touchscreen. Developers who understand that design around it.
